On a systems neuroscience level we are working on the brain mechanisms of pain perception. Specifically, we are interested in the functional significance of neuronal oscillations and neuronal communication for the subjective experience of pain. Located at the Department of Neurology of the Klinikum rechts der Isar, Technische Universität München we use psychophysics, electroencephalography and non-invasive brain stimulation techniques to investigate the brain mechanisms of pain perception in healthy human subjects and patients suffering from chronic pain.
Primary Technique(s): electroencephalography; advanced analysis of neuronal oscillations, connectivity and brain networks; non-invasive brain stimulation
