Research Focus

Dr. Wullimann's research focuses on brain development in zebrafish and comparative neuroanatomy. Major working fields and methods are:

  • Functional anatomy: Tract tracing in fixed adult zebrafish brains

  • Neurochemical anatomy: Transmitter phenotypes in the zebrafish forebrain using immunohistochemistry

  • Forebrain development: Characterization of neuronal phenotypes in early zebrafish brain using in situ brain hybridization

Primary Technique(s): tract tracing, immunohistochemistry, in situ brain hybridization, early transcription factor expression, markers for neurochemical phenotypes (choline acetyltransferase, tyrosine hydroxylase, GABA)

Model Organism(s): zebrafish, additional teleosts, amphibians (Xenopus), mice
